On November 30, many local Scottish organizations will be celebrating Saint Andrew's Day, or the Feast of Saint Andrews. Since St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, this is also Scotland's official national day. Clan Forbes Society members in the Alexandria, Virginia, area will be celebrating the day with two special events.
St. Andrew’s Day Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan
Please join the Clan Forbes Society at a Kirk’ o’ the Tartan. St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church is holding a Kirkin' o’ the Tartan and Evening Prayer service on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 7:00 PM. November 30th is St. Andrew’s Day. St. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland. The service will include a blessing of Scottish tartans, a bagpiper, Scottish fiddling, and other Scottish music. It will be followed by a reception with Scottish foods and beverages. Bring your kilts and tartans if you have them! The church is located at 402 E. Monroe Avenue, Alexandria, VA. Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk
The St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C., began the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk on St. Andrew’s Day in 1969 when a bagpiper led a contingent of members to the Old Presbyterian Meeting House to lay a wreath on the grave of William Hunter, the founder of the original Society formed in Alexandria, Virginia. This simple act has grown to one of the top five events in the Commonwealth of Virginia: the Annual Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk! Please join the Clan Forbes Society as we, once again, secure our place in this proud tradition on Saturday, December 7, 2019! we'll join the St. Andrew's Society for coffee and doughnuts at 7:30 AM in the reception hall of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, 321 S. Fairfax St., Alexandria, Virginia. Then we will participate in the 9:00 AM church service and wreath-laying. The Walk steps off at 11:00 AM near the corner of Wilkes and St. Asaph Streets in Old Town Alexandria. Check with local volunteers for our location in the parade. All are welcome to march!
